Low self esteem

So we've got another round of Idols showing on TV at the moment and it sounds really bleak. We were discussing it at work when the comment was made that maybe these people were always told that they have great voices because they obviously enjoy singing so much and no-one wanted to hurt their feelings with the truth that they really shouldn't be singing.

That's how I've been feeling about my art lately: that it isn't really any good but people say it is just to spare my feelings.

Do you ever feel this way? What do you do about it? I've started doing daily blind drawings again. I've heard from more than one source that it helps. And I really like not having control over the outcome.

If any of you want to try your hand at illustrating other people's work, there's a shortage of artists at the original fiction bigbang. Further information can be found at http://community.livejournal.com/novel_bigbang/ .

What do you think?  The reference I started with was a photo of a little statue, but then at some point my camera's battery went flat so it was finished from my imagination.

These are a few postcards I made recently:

A blue crane

Death
(from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman)

Monteiro's Hornbill. There are a family of them living in our neighbourhood.

Rosemary is a brown labrador with green eyes

A view of Table Mountain from Robben Island (it's meant to be the 'tablecloth' of mist at the top there...)

Hi, I'm new to all this (live journal/ art, etc), so if your serious about giving advice, it would be much appreciated.

I have recently gotten back into drawing. I haven't had the time or the motivation for a while. The image i uploaded is of a market in Zunyi, China.

Hi, and welcome!

Hi, so glad you all joined! If anyone has a good picture at hand and wants to post it - do go ahead. ^^ My net connection's too cranky to post pics atm.

Also, I'll be posting ads in a few other comms besides where I've posted already. Sorry if the message keeps popping up on your flist (meant to post them all at once, but fell asleep with my head on the desk, lol).

So, why did you join - did you stop drawing and want to start again, or did you always wish you could do it, etc.? What kind of things do you usually draw, or used to? What kind of things do you want to learn to draw? (Or paint, or whatever. Drawing is a bit of a synonym here.) Besides being curious, I think knowing might help in posting pictures. :)
